Sedan, Europe’s largest fortress
In Sedan, the fortress spreads its 35,000 m² of defences over seven levels: it is the largest in Europe. You cross silent courtyards, climb the ramparts, and can even sleep in its hotel set in the princes’ wing. Summer medieval re-enactments bring the moats to life. Exploring this maze together multiplies chances to start a conversation between two portcullises.
Great Ardennes forest and Semoy valley
To the north, the Semoy valley winds between wooded slopes to the Belgian border. The villages of Thilay, Haulmé and Monthermé invite hikes on the GR 12 trail. Viewpoints everywhere reveal a patchwork of forests, clearings and water. The curious will meet legendary stones such as the Ladies of the Meuse. A magnificent playground for those who love walking together.
Vieilles-Forges Lake, Rocroi and Mouzon
Vieilles-Forges Lake, deep in the forest, offers swimming, windsurfing and picnic areas. Rocroi, a star-shaped town fortified by Vauban, astonishes with its perfect geometry seen from above. In Mouzon, the Romanesque abbey church and the Felt Museum tell another side of the Ardennes. On Lyad, members from the Ardennes share their favourite spots; it is up to you to find someone to push the door with.
